Not to be unnecessarly ghoulish, but who is going to pick up all the medical bills for that time period. I could see the insurance company saying that they wouldn’t pay, since it wasn’t medically approved or necessary treatment, I don’t see the hospital eating the charge, and I SURE AS HELL don’t see Texas jumping up to cover it.

Anybody in that industry (medical billing / insurance / law) have any ideas.

Get the feeling the family’s gonna be back in court, either arguing with the insurance company or the hospital. The former will, as you said, likely argue that the care given wasn’t medically necessary and so refuse to cover the costs, while the latter will say it was bound by law to provide that care but the cost for doing so still falls on the family.
