Interesting. It isn’t too surprising that the Feds have tools in the toolbox that would be suitable for playing hardball here.

Of course, that also means a plea of helplessness from the Feds cannot be accepted easily.

I have seen discussed elsewhere (and I don’t have the link handy or I would provide - this was a few days ago) the rates on which they prosecute cases like these and it is not high. But the toolkit does allow for appropriate action even if they cannot prosecute for murder.
