I think it kind of matters how Garrett responds to this betrayal and if it shakes him out of his ill advised, reflexive support for Kavanaugh. I’ve known a few white male conservative ain’t shit middle school teachers and so I’m not in a rush to defend Garrett until he shows signs of internally connecting his own victimization with Ford’s and realizes how stupid it was to weigh in on something that he, at best, knew nothing about.

He signed a letter that his buddy from thirty years ago was a good guy. Typical shit we all do at some point in our lives, and almost none of us go to that friend and interrogate him or her on where the skeletons are buried under what closet before we sign.

That guy could just as well have been me or a hundred thousand other teachers who take a minute to sign something before the class goes apeshit again for the fifth time today. That teachers owes you nothing at all. He doesn’t owe you, me, or anybody else an explanation or a communication or anything else.

But we, as a society, sure as hell owe him. This nightmare is going to follow him forever. It is now part of the wingnut folklore and it will never, ever go away. Erick son of Erick is still pimping this shit hours after Whelan deleted the tweets.

So please take a moment and have a little empathy and a little humility as well, because none of us can say at what moment this kind of unwanted nightmare can find any of us. When it does, you will be glad for the people who extend an open hand rather than a clenched fist.
