It does appear that Pope Francis is trying to get to the bottom of the abuse scandals and root them out.

The Catholic Church as an institution has a very long history and like all institutions tend to resist change. That said, the Pope is trying to move it in the right direction.

Moreover, the Catholic Church isn’t the only church with those problems. Protestant churches do it too. The Catholic Church makes a better target for folks that don’t like them.

Oh yeah I know. It’s definitely not unique to the RCC. And I agree with you about Francis, he’s been very good for the church.
