re: #310 Decatur Deb
We had sailors from a port-call for one Christmas—a couple frigates doing some work in Haifa. Our little commissary ran a weird deal with the Navy for quarterly bulk resupply of things like shrimp that were difficult to get locally.
On a port visit to Haifa, I asked directions about which bus to take to go somewhere. Either the person I asked didn’t understand, or I didn’t understand.
I got on the bus I was directed to take, and wound up way out in the middle of nowhere in the countryside. Bus driver shut down the bus and said he was done for the day.
I was left standing with a friend in a town in the middle of nowhere … after some time a nice person saw our plight and offered to take us by car back to Haifa (to the place we were trying to get to in the first place).
