McConnell on failure to advance something on immigration: Democrats failed to produce a solution..I thought we may be able to resolve this..Our friends across the aisle were unable to get something done..They turned away from a golden opportunity to resolve the issue
psst, mitch:
Trump threatens to veto bipartisan immigration bill
I think another factor involved in all this is that the immigration “issue” is also the last of Trump’s BFD campaign issues that hasn’t been up for Congressional action: And most of his “agenda” has, so far, been pretty much a series of failures: Outside, of course, of boosting military spending (not hard in Washington), and the Republicans’ execrable tax bill (not his idea), Trump’s first year in the White House has (to date) little positive to show for it: and it’s come at the cost of pretty much ALL his Presidential credibility. Having to salvage any sort of compromise, especially on his stupid Wall, over immigration (after his constant “build-the-Wall, throw ‘em out. keep ‘em out! ” “nativist” rhetoric) is likely to be spun as just another Trump failure: and, loser that is, that’s just too much to hope he’s going to go for without a fight. Hopefully one he will, again, lose….
