Many times a company like Viacom (or recording companies, video distribution companies, even book publishers) will hold a product “off the shelf” until they deem there is enough of a demand to offset marketing and distribution costs, then after that swell has passed but the product back into mothballs.
Sure, but this comedy was made in 2001 and is still on sale in DVD format so that doesn’t apply here. In this case, youtube really would just be free advertising.
