I was going to comment on Mr. Brooks’ latest thumbsucker: but the NYT comments section was closed (after 2144), so I was going to do it here instead, but you beat me to it with as pithy a recap as I could craft, so there we are…..

I had really had some hopes that David Brooks had (somewhat) moved on from his usual fatuous, facile “analyses” - which, on the political level, always seem to boil down to “Republicans bad, but Democrats useless”, but, alas, disappointed again.

My only curiosity regarding Brooks and the other wags is:
1. Do they actually realize how much of an authoritarian wreck the GOP is, and that Trump’s behavior and party acceptance of said behavior is a very clear sign of how deep the rot is?

2. Are they in denial of the rot, or, worse, want the authoritarianism and just think Trump is a crass expression of it?
