Perhaps you confuse my brevity with simplicity. From that perspective it’s not at all hard to take seriously.

I’d love to see very broad & long term efforts to deal with that complex issue. But not as a distraction from how to reduce gang violence today by way of understanding from the FBI stats where a huge chunk of the problem resides.

I also think it’s important to reduce the overall gun deaths. Per capita numbers are interesting but don’t address the full scope of the problem. Also the likely solutions are different. Reducing gun deaths in Alaska might involve more hunting safety issues while reducing gun deaths in Chicago might involve more crime and gang related issues.
It should be obvious but sadly the discourse has become so politicized it’s almost impossible to have a serious discussion.
