The defense of the current logo basically falls into - because, history.

Which would ignore the larger, longer, and more reprehensible big H history of the US treatment of Native Americans. And in this instance, the history of the team franchise is trumped by the history of the treatment of Native Americans and that the PTO is following the Lanham Act on what constitutes a disparaging trademark that shouldn’t be registered.

A law that has been in place for decades.

It’s all about the logo being the only thing many of these people have ever known. Even my uncle who at 70 has been around for most of the Redskins history was dumbfounded when I told him about how the Redskins founder was a segregationist. Now contrast that with the people like the Maras, Rooneys, Lombardi, and other peons of early NFL history and you can show that he wasn’t a product of his times but a pure bigot who nearly had the Kennedy Interior department remove the Skins’ lease in DC after they refused to integrate.
