Whenever I see that list, I wonder why Ted Cruz is “The Honorable” while all the other Sens are just Sen. or Senator (nice consistency in their titles)

He was Solicitor General of Texas. Solicitor and Attorney Generals are titled by “the Honorable.”

Normally Senator would trump this, it’s a higher political position, and unlike SG is an elected not an appointed one. Cruz’s people obviously like Honorable because they think it sounds cooler and places him apart.

I can’t think of another Senator off the top of my head who was a State AG / SG, but I’m fairly sure that Cruz can’t be the first. If we can find them and the honorific they preferred it would put Cruz’s decision in context.
