It sounds like the commander took three days to cozy the pirates down to 30 meter range, and then decided that he had the drop. I’d say Philliips’ life was in immanent danger for the full time he was in captivity.

You know, if it comes out that Obama approved an operational plan to get the pirates to agree to be towed and then to get them within 30 meters of the ship, I would give him full marks for ordering a slow but orderly rescue plan.

But that hasn’t been established yet.
