re: #324 Wendell Zurkowitz ((slave to the waffle light))
Let us institute a national Citizen ID and one for resident legal non-citizens.
Free of charge for all citizens and low cost for non-citizens.
It would put to rest nearly all issues of voter ID fraud, abuse of social services and violation of labor laws.
And still be cheaper and more effective than building a wall.
Any other attempt at a solution is just grandstanding or kicking the can down the road.
Conservatives have opposed the idea of a National ID card as long as it has been suggested.
On voting, they don’t want to make it easier to vote (except where they have a lock on government, like my state with mail voting).
The argument is everything from “number of the Beast” to “excessive government overreach” to “the government is tracking us.”
