For all his flaws, W did not show hate or contempt for others; did not demonize groups of people; and was actually interested in helping ordinary people. After all, he played a crucial role in fighting AIDs in Africa and he browbeat Republicans to vote for the Medicare Part D program.

On the other hand, his staff waged a deeply dishonest campaign against McCain in South Carolina; he did nothing to stop the Swift Boat attacks against Kerry, and he scared Congress to authorize our excellent adventure in Iraq, which has led to ongoing damage to many areas in the Middle East and paved the way to increased Iranian power.

He;s better than the GOP since he left. The problem is that’s an incredibly low bar. McCain ‘08, Romney, and Trump have all been pgoressively worse. I don’t even want to think what’s going to replace Trump. I Think an outright open white supremacist might get it.
