Artists have always had trouble getting heard or viewed, and there are plenty of gawd-awful popular songs in the past as well.

As for support dancers, as long as there has been music there have been support dancers (ballet, opera, and yes, Marvin Gaye):

DId he go on the road to all his shows with those dancers…say like a Justin Timberlake or Katy Perry now? Did he take that smokey little club with him?

I don’t see a live show there. It is a video.

And come on, opera has always been a mixed media as has ballet.

In other words you missed the point.

Now the dancing and “show” may be greater than the talent…in my opinion.
