We used to laugh at tragedy (I easily remember the “red button” jokes from the Challenger explosion). Then certain people decided we should be serious and somber. These are the same people that attempt to use the military as a shield against any criticism. Yes, I do view both of these as real attempts at reducing our freedoms.

I remember a joke I heard after the Columbia disaster (works for the Challenger too):

“Do you know what NASA stands for?”
“No, what?”
“Need another seven astronauts.”
