That’s right. I do remember my professor mentioning that when I re-read it. The proper translation is key to understanding Kafka better. As I recall and much to my annoyance, the professor had us get a very specific edition of The Trial(Yep had us read two Kafkas in the same semester.) We read a lot of stuff when atypical narratives. Jean Toomer’s Cane for one. And I found what I read from Gertrude Stein a bit offputting too. I liked the more traditional narratives like Anzia Yezierska’s Hungry Hearts.

Did your professor know my high school English teacher? We read The Trial too. Hated that even more. Do. Not. Like. Kafka. I don’t care what excellent points he has in his work. There is a better way to get it through to me.
