re: #326 ObserverArt
How can something classical last hundreds of years, and yet we canāt discover and rediscover and mess with something that is less than 30 or so?
I think we donāt value what we have now and how it fits in with previous and is another advancement of a how music can be created and styled. And we donāt think it has the ability to last when some of it may well be classics in time.
Take a cross genre song like Willie Nelsonās Crazy. There is a good chance that song will go down in time as a great.
In 1961 it was just a song by some guy too. And I bet someone said āit is not as good as something olā Hank wrote.ā
Not everyone values things from the past and messes around with them or does something different with them, but there are artists who do, sometimes becoming famous for the new version of an old tune. For example, Vanessa Mae with āClassical Gasā by Mason Williams, or Johnny Cash with āHurtā by Nine Inch Nails.
(On the other hand, I havenāt gotten famous with my hammered dulcimer version of āClassical Gas,ā so thereās that. /s)
