My wife’s Websites use high-contrast colours, but that is to conform to suggestions from disability organisations which hold that high contrast is easier for low-vision users to see.

you mentioned, but the End Times and Conspiracy Theory folks seem to feel the need to brighten things up to emphasize their point and get your attention.
