Reminds me of the joke about the steady customer at the diner:

Guy comes in to the same diner, every day at the same time. Always orders the chicken soup; doesn’t even have to say it - the servers all know that’s all he ever gets.

Anyway, one day, he sits down, and they set the soup before him. He pushes it away and waves to the server, who comes over.

“I can’t eat this,” he says.

“Whaddaya mean? You’ve eaten nothing but this every day for the past 10 years. You don’t even have to order, we know you always have the soup.”

“True,” the customer says, “but I can’t eat this.”

“And why not? It’s been perfectly good enough for you for years now. Why the change? Why now?”

The customer shrugs, “There’s no spoon.”

That’s the modern conservative’s problem; we want to have the same soup, same as always, but there’s no damned spoon.
