The Catholic Church is going down a bad road. They are treating Women poorly at best, and seem to be trying to return things to the state of the Victorian Era.

There used to be a progressive element in the Church.

Then you had idiotic Popes like Paul VI, and evil creatures like Benedict XVI. That has wiped it out, turning it into a reactionary husk.

If only Pope John XXIII had lived another few years.

The progressives took the wrong path though, with too many of them becoming too friendly with Communism during the 1970’s and 1980’s. They not only went against their superiors, but they also backed the losing side in the Cold War. As a result too many of the Catholic ‘further left’ ended up in a very weak position. The right side of the Catholic spectrum also got a lot better organized and both Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI have given the Catholic right strong support.
