I personally think Libertarians have a lot in common with dogmatic Marxists. They’re convinced their worldview is the only right one and they don’t give a lot of credence to things like real world data and observations.

Within the “movement” there is definitely a lot of dogmatic thinking with regular dismissals of how things actually work. There’s usually a few different camps that form. One is those who believe things went off the rails in the early 20th century and that we should basically go back to having a pre-industrial or proto-industrial society. The level of stupid there is fairly obvious. Then there’s the camp that tend to think they’re smarter than everyone else and if the world was more like they want they’d become rich and powerful, and stupid people would get what they deserve. The problem with that camp is they ignore the fact that you’ll never live in a world where everyone has perfect information and the ability to analyze it, meaning they’ll get fucked over at some point. Then there are those who are really more anarchist than anything. They are the type who just want to watch the world burn.
