Quick question for the cross stitching Lizards out there. Whats the best way to get this cleaned up without fading the threads.

Been hanging in my kitchen for about 20 yrs. Tried using Dreft and it got most of the gunk off, but I think it could look better.

It also has metallic (gold and silver) threads.

I saw this trick on my favorite house cleaning show: lemon water with a drop of soap. Put your x-stitch in it and soak for a couple of hours. Rinse in the same way (drop, soak for a sec, remove, fresh water, drop, soak, remove until the water is clear.). Don’t rub. Ever.
