There actually were some good ol’ days in some respects like a thriving middle class where a single income could support a family and when we had 70+% tax rate on the highest incomes so multi-million dollar CEO salaries didn’t pay off. Strong unions were there to raise the middle class and help prevent employee abuse.

Strangely, those are not the good ol’ days Republicans want to return to.

I remember growing up in the 60s in a Western Pennsylvania steel town where Dad made enough money in the mill that Mom could stay home and raise the kids. Dad made enough money to buy a house, a car, take a vacation every year and put the kids through college.

Those days died when Reagan broke the unions and gave the rich endless welfare in the form of deep tax cuts. The mills died, and were replaced by WalMarts, McDonald’s and “service” jobs that paid maybe a third of what the mill did.
