It was about slavery. It’s literally in the CSA’s founding documents. They may have been conned into thinking they were fighting to protect the “Southern way of life” again slavery or states rights again slavery but they were fighting to protect slavery. I’m glad they mentioned their aunt because I really feel the Lost Cause has created a mythology where Southerners had no choice but to fight for the CSA. Stonewall had a choice and it was the wrong one. Aunt Laura’s was teh right one.
