re: #307 Eventual Carrion

It is a pity because there are many religious people out there doing a lot of good for people, and they get smeared with the same brush. And by religious I am talking about all different religions. The users and takers get all the press and attention (as you say, the loud ones), while the others go about their good deeds pretty much in obscurity.

My son ran into this in high school and now in college — the astonishment from new &/or friends that he’s a liberal, Democratic, Lutheran science & engineering major. He says there’s an automatic tendency from some peers to slot him into the Evangelical box and tune him out when he identifies as Christian. Has to explain himself a lot, which at least hones his ability to articulate his beliefs.

I don’t think the current batch of loud-mouthed Pharisees will or can destroy Christianity. However, if they take down the Prosperity Gospel and Seven Mountains networks with their excesses, I’d be fine with that. I’m at the point where I think it’s time to tax the churches. Preferably with an income limit that will spare the smaller, devout, quiet congregations; or generous tax breaks for genuine outreach; but all of them if that’s what it takes to weed out the profiteers.
