republicans, “responsible” gun owners, even the so called NRA have had years to self police this problem. to do anything that would have separated the reckless and careless from the rest of them - you know, the good guys.

they did more than nothing
- they’ve armed, re-armed, over-armed the reckless
- the nra particularly has morphed from a hunter safety and ‘rifle’ club to lobbier of all right wing causes
- they’ve allowed the reckless and careless to become the representative face of who they are
