This is the crux of the difference between an actual fucking conspiracy, and a conspiracy theory. Conspiracy theories quickly balloon out of the realm of plausibility because of all the people who would ostensibly be involved, or who would know something about the conspiracy and thus be required to keep quiet. The “inflationary theory” of conspiracy theories states that eventually, a conspiracy theory will spiral outward until everyone in the world, less the theory’s advocates, will have to be involved or have knowledge of the conspiracy - at which point, it has become the worst possible conspiracy theory, because it involves literally the entire world sitting on the conspiracy and keeping it quiet.

What if everyone but the conspiracy person are actually lizard people, and are in on it?
