My suggestion - do it on a hot July day. Try climbing Little Round Top from the bottom, and imagine people firing down on you. Walk from the Virginia Monument (say hello to Bobby Lee and Traveller first), and when you get to Bus. Rt. 15 the Emmitsburg Road, imagine the entire ridge ahead of you erupting in cannon and musket fire.

Yeah, I’ve done that and still can’t really imagine. It would have been more striking to me without all the monuments, though.
