A dog is actually a “domesticated” wolf. Anything else is still a wolf, even if it’s the result of decades of careful breeding.

An acquaintance of mine has talked about his father’s involvement in breeding and raising Doberman. He said that they were the best behaved dogs you would ever meet but he would never turn his back on one; they were quiet, and calm, but ultimately he felt totally untrustworthy.

OTOH I’ve known several pure-bred or Rottweiler mixes. Another breed that often inspires fear, but the ones I’ve been with just slobber over you and want you to pet them or throw their ball. For any breed, a lot depends on not just how they are raised but also their blood line. Some genes can make them truly dangerous, no matter how well they have been raised.
