From what I’m reading about the polling, Trump is close entirely because of dominating with a single demographic - white men who did not go to college. With every other demographic, he’s running well behind where Romney was 4 years ago.

Say what you will about him, his strategy of appealing to the worst impulses in white America has been pretty successful. He’s only 2-4% behind, nationally.

But if he does win with this strategy, it will be a terrible day for America, over and above the simple fact of his winning.
