Funny. Maybe things are different around here but at my local supermarket there’s something like 20 self checkout registers in the space of 5 or so regular registers, there’s one to three employees supervising (depending on how busy it is etc), barely anyone has issues and you get through pretty much instantly, even when the entire store is pretty much chock full (and it’s in a pretty busy location to boot). The things are pleasant to work with and I’ve never had to wait for more than a few seconds to get to one, in stark contrast to the ‘classic’ model registers. I recognise that there’s a loss of jobs there but to argue that it’s a loss to the customer ‘experience’? Heck, you guys must have pretty poor self-service registers compared to ours, to put it mildly.
