Realize I’m coming late to this, but did ya’ll actually watch the speech or just rely on Alternet’s summary? Because I really think it’s an unfair characterization of what he said. I listened to the speech and my impression was that the quiver was an offhand remark in a much broader topic. He talked about how important his family has been to him and how some of his happiest times were on his mission (keep in mind this is a co-ed institution that is predominantly Mormon). And then said that people shouldn’t put off enjoying life because they want to make money and be successful. That if they meet someone they love, they should get married. If they want kids, they should have them.

I will grant that it’s easy for him to say, with his wealth. But I’ve heard that message a hundred times. I’ve given it. It really didn’t cross me as “women should be barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen” message.

One thing that did interest me was that Romney specifically rejected the so-called “Prosperity Gospel”: the idea that God wants you to be rich and make a lot of money. This has become very big in some conservative circles lately and it’s nice to see someone rubbish it.
