College was out of reach for kids before the Powell Memorandum. I graduated in 1978 and was accepted to a number of colleges. My mother plainly told me βI canβt afford it.β
Though I was the salutatorian of my class, college was out-of-reach. I was accepted to the colleges I applied to; my family could not afford any.
Instead, it was the high seas and Haze Grey Cruise Lines for me.
Conservatives blame student loans for the high cost of for-profit colleges. I think thereβs some truth in that.
