I’m going to disagree. 9/11 was, is, and will be a watershed moment in American history. It took the hyper-patriotism of the wingnut right and cranked it up to potato. It should come as no surprise that Charles’s break with the right came post-9/11, after everyone went completely dipshit stupid with Islamophobia and God-fearing, righteous murderphilia.

I agree. From a different point of view, 9/11 disposed of the dangerous illusion that the US could intervene as it pleased everywhere else in the world without any possibility of blowback/negative consequences.
