By the way, I’m going to say something a little bit controversial but I think welfare state socialism has worked in the Nordic countries because they’re not as diverse as ours. It was a lot harder for right wing politicians there to use race baiting to get the electorate to reject those policies. I think that’s one of the reasons why welfare state style economics is difficult to implement in the U.S. It’s true. We do have a larger aversion to socialism than our European friends but at the same time, that is something that I think is a factor.

This is where the Southern Democrats fell off the New Deal wagon, right around the time that the benefits of the New Deal were being expanded to Those People.

When everyone is US, it’s hard to point to a THEM, who are living on OUR tax dollars.
