That was my first thought when I read the transcript. Trump thinks Menendez was wrongly accused. I’m old enough to remember when he was trotted out as a typical corrupt Dem by the MAGA crowd. Then again he’s discussed pardoning Blago in Illinois and that’s gotten crickets from that crowd too. Crooked politicians, dictators, those are who Trump sympathizes with. Long time public servants with bipartisan respect, democratic elected leaders, those are who he shows disdain towards.
