Don’t knock him for that. Typically state level legislators and even it can be argued Congress members make very little salary (DC costs of living) and this is why usually it is the already wealthy have a natural advantage of holding office. They have no need to earn a daily wage just to live. I imagine quite a few state level politicians live in very modest means.
