As I said above, it makes little sense that the prosecutors decided to go with a conspiracy charge without including a charge for the underlying criminal action

The only way that would make sense is if the underlying crime never happened, so the conspiracy was the only thing that could be charged.

But that’s just nonsense, right? I’m accustomed to ‘banks gone wild’ actually being not illegal, but there must have been some real Federal crimes in the Oregon occupation other than the firearms charges.
