“America First” was a popular sentiment then too. We had to be dragged kicking and screaming into WWII.

Had Hitler not declared war on the USA after we declared war on the Japanese Empire, there’s a good possibility we might not have gone to war with Nazi Germany at all.

Hitler’s fatuous declaration of war, certainly one of the biggest blunders in recorded history, ensured that the US Congress would respond in kind, thus sealing his fate.
