re: #187 makeitstop

Just kinda cruising around and reading random posts on FB and Twitter, and some people have it in their heads that Most American cities are having non-stop riots and looting 24/7. Carnage! Violence! Destruction! Anarchy! Mayhem! Criminality!

…the fuck? Everybody’s gone stupid. I want to scream at them, but it would be a waste of effort.

It’s hard to remember sometimes that the majority of Americans are not on social media at all.

re: #294 Hecuba’s daughter

They may not all be on social media but too many of those are definitely watching Faux News and listening to talk radio; they are getting the message that there is rioting and violence in the streets.

And before we get into how ‘social media isn’t real life’, remember that we have an election where the GOP may end up having a genuine QAnon caucus because of how many Q-berts will actually get elected to the US House. And as pointed out, how Faux News basically dictates the direction of the rest of the news? Social media is getting up there in how much it actually influences coverage everywhere else, whether we like it or not. It doesn’t have to actually reflect the real world. It just has to create the narrative for ‘real media’ to latch on to and disseminate to the less internet savvy for it to become ‘truth’.

EDIT: Also, is there just something weird going on with the quoting system? If I try to add in multiple quotes, each subsequent quote will paste itself smack dab in the HTML address for the first quoted post, and that’s no matter where I leave the cursor in the text window before I hit the ‘quote’ button.
