re: #335 Walter L. Newton

I thought the inch or so we got yesterday evening would have kept the traffic down at the supermarket. No way… out of 141 stores in this division, the Conifer store is something like 21st in sales. We’re damn busy, considering we are in a rural area, medium dense area, but not like in the heart of Denver (or any medium/large city).

And the Safeway a mile away, at “rush hour” you could drive a truck down the aisles and not hit anyone.

It’s been about a month since I worked a weeknight evening, since they have been giving me most of my hours on those weekend overnights, but I suddenly realized, the overnights, at least considering overall physical labor, is actually more laid back.

Last night I checked for a solid 2 1/2 hours before they were able to break me. And we don’t have the European style check stands, where the customer empties their baskets onto a conveyor belt. We have to bend and stand and empty the baskets ourselves.

Busy… busy… busy…

Everytime they predict snow my Safeway always turned into a mad rush scene. People thinking that they’re going to be snowed in for the next couple of days or something. I’ve done it too only to have it snow that night and then the day after it’s like I said above, 50 degrees and sunny.
