It killed Savita Halappanavar back in 2012. She was an Indian dentist living in Ireland. Seventeen weeks into her pregnancy, she suffered a miscarriage. Doctors at the hospital refused to perform an abortion, due to abortion being illegal in Ireland. As a result, she became septic and died days later.
Yeah, I regularly bring Ms. Halappanavar up when conversing with pro-lifers. Every time one of them tells me that a fetus has a beating heart, I point out that Ms. Halappanavar had a beating heart but died because of a strict rule that favored the as-yet-unborn fetus over the living and here woman.
