Is it the company or Western Union (or a company like them) who is charging? Everytime money changes hands, someone wants a cut. If they have to utilize a 3rd party to transfer funds —then there will be a charge.

The online payments are through Western Union, I understand the fee there, BUT why should I have to pay a 9 dollar fee when I call the company directly? Am I really supposed to believe that a large loan servicer has no ability to handle its own credit card payments? That’s freaking ridiculous.
