This is the problem with the whole dream of having a ‘Dealmaker’ as President:

First, he isn’t one, really.

Second, you cannot make ‘deals’ on complex policy issues if you don’t know the policy details, and don’t care about the policy details, and are totally incapable of learning the policy details.

Coming into a room and telling everyone “It’ll be great, believe me! Don’t worry about the details!” won’t cut it when the “Details” involve 24 Million losing insurance, and everyone’s premiums and deductible rising while Medicare runs out of money sooner.

That’s because Trump isn’t a dealmaker, he’s a deal signer. He has his underlings spend time hammering out the deals, with an army of lawyers going over the fine details, before he ever puts pen to paper. Plus he’s used to “bargaining” from the stronger position, using his power to force the other side to accept his terms. He doesn’t quite get that at best he’s equal to the Republican leadership in these negotiations and at worst he’s in a shitty bargaining position because they’re the ones who actually have to make the deal happen.
