re: #28 Sionainn, the Nasty Devilbitch

I don’t have that kind of money. I spent a long time trying to figure out how I was going to get insurance. Couldn’t afford anything on the market, or if I could afford it, I’d still be paying completely out of pocket for everything since the deductible was so high. I decided on going with COBRA which is in the middle of as far as cost of the premium from what I was looking at and I will still be able to use the insurance. It’s money I don’t have and it’s only for 18 months, but after I got back a suspicious chest CT scan and need another one in 3 months, I don’t really have a choice.

Damn, I feel terrible that you’re going through all that—which sounds a lot like “thoughts and prayers” but I will try to find out anything I can about the tax scam/sole proprietor stuff and get the info I find to you asap.

I can definitely relate (and agree how much it sucks.) Most of my career has been freelance, and I’ve always had really crappy, high deductible, doesn’t cover much of anything, private insurance. The only time I had decent insurance was during a long-term assignment where the company let me buy into their group policy—particularly fortunate because that was in effect when I had breast cancer.

The only advantage I’ve seen becoming an old has been getting Medicare—even with the Medi-gap policy and prescription policy added in, it’s still cheaper than the crap private insurance I used to have.
