When it looked like the R’s would maintain a majority in the Senate I thought we might get a chance to test the idea that the VP is the President of the Senate and can overrule McConnell. The VP usually defers to the Pro Tempore during normal business in the Senate. Somehow McConnell perverted his role as Pres Pro Tempore into blocking all debate and voting on the floor that he did not agree with. I don’t see how this is constitutional. With a Dem VP, McConnell should not have been able to act the same way.
With the way Georgia went we won’t have this situation for now.

McConnell is not and never has been president pro tem of the Senate. He has done his obstruction in his posts as Senate Majority Leader when the Republicans have held the majority, and Senate Minority Leader when they haven’t. During the Trump years, the President pro tem has been Orrin Hatch and Charles Grassley.
