I think you’re over emphasizing the importance of the party platform here. I see it as more useful as a guide to what the party values and less a blueprint for what the party actually thinks they’re going to accomplish in the next four years.

Just my two cents.

The reason that Trumpy Dumpy is infesting the (R) side of the ballot is that Republican politicians, in thrall to the extreme wing of the party, kept making promises and platform commitments that were, as the FBI says, grossly negligent- they knew that they couldn’t be kept under our current system of government, and especially without the White House and control of Congress. I used to be a Republican until 2013- the government shutdown, for reasons not worth going into right now, convinced me that the party was in the wrong. And I live in a state whose governor (until the end of last year) was the personification of this process.

So I hope you can understand why I consider it such a bad idea to make these kinds of pie-in-the-sky promises without a plan to follow through, or without the intention to do so. I hate to see Hillary falling prey to nice-sounding slogans like McCain and Romney did.
