Why did Trump demand the time for the speech in the first place? Or is this not what he was planning on saying? Certainly our panic over a potential declaration of national emergency was unwarranted. Or maybe that was his original intent but he was persuaded not to unleash a Constitutional crisis.

Don’t know, but as Laurence O’Donnell is pointing out, it ended up just being part of a campaign fundraising pitch.
