re: #312 Targetpractice

It’s the speed, ease, and availability of influenza testing that makes those statistics possible. We’re likely going to be debating the “real” number of COVID-19 cases for years, simply because it took weeks to get testing started, longer to get it to more than a handful of people a day, and we still haven’t reached a period where everybody who should best tested is being tested. And any estimate is likely to miss a whole of “mild” cases or asymptomatic carriers who gave it to everyone around them without ever knowing they were carrying COVID-19.

I am pretty sure my 70 year old mom has it. She has had a dry cough for a week. No other symptoms though. My aunt and uncle who she spends a lot of time with were down for a week in bed with all of the symptoms, fever, fatigue, cough etc. They are both on the mend and my mom says she is feeling better. But my dad and brother who live in the same house have shown no symptoms at all. None of them have been tested.

I imagine that is playing out all over. When all of this is said and done and we can look at it in the rearview mirror we are going to find it was far more widespread than was being reported and with a lower mortality rate than we are seeing from just confirmed cases.
